After another lovely night’s sleep, we arrived in Skagway. This was my pick of the three places visited by the Norwegian Sun. So quaint, so lovely, so old fashioned. The sidewalks were boardwalks and the shopfronts really gave it that old time “town in the wilderness” feel.
The tour I was on did not leave until nearly midday, so I spent a good deal of time walking around the town, which was a very easy walk. With a shuttle service back to the dock and an easy walk along the dock to the ship, it was a very enjoyable morning.
I did a White Pass & Yukon Railway and Yukon Suspension Bridge tour. The tour bus dropped us off at the station, where we got on the train. The ride in the old fashioned carriages was fantastic and the scenery sublime. Truly, the Rockies have a lot to live up to after Alaska. I think I will do a photo page in the blog of some of the photos I took. It is scenery I don’t think I could ever tire of. We had our passports checked twice on this tour as we went from Alaska into Canada and back again.
The bus met us at the end of the rail journey and whisked us off to the Yukon Suspension Bridge. The Yukon Suspension Bridge is not really in the Yukon, but just in British Columbia, but as it is maintained by the Yukon Territory, the bridge takes that name. I am such an old hand at suspension bridges now, straight on, walk across without hanging on and straight off. What a legend I am now.
As usual, we all met up for drinks and dinner. Everyone had a great time on whatever tour they had taken.
Back in my cabin, I discovered that my towel animal for the day was an elephant. Our cabin steward, Roy, had been making us all lovely towel animals to sit on our beds and surprise us when we went back to the cabins for the night. So far I have had a dog, a pig and now an elephant. What will tomorrow’s towel animal be I wonder??????
